Louisiana Elementary Math & Coding Olympiad

Elementary school students will face off in a math and coding competition on Saturday, March 26, 2022. The event location and time is still tentative and will be announced at the end of February. The test may be virtual or in-person at Kenilworth Science and Technology School at 7600 Boone Ave, This event consists of a complex mathematical test that 5th graders take hosted and organized by Kenilworth Science and Technology School.  Kenilworth aims to provide challenging, engaging mathematical experience which is both competitive and educational. All interested 5th graders are welcomed to participate in the competition. Students who are interested, can opt-in to the coding competition that will be a separate test. Coding questions will be pulled from a free online coding course. Learn more about the coding portion of the exam in the "Coding" tab. Awards are given to both the 5th grader who wins and their math teacher! The best part is that it is free to register!

Participants: Must be a 5th grade student in Louisiana*

Questions: Multiple choice questions from various math topics aligned to Common Core for all students, and coding questions aligned to code.org Elementary Courses A-F.

Location: TBD* Virtual/In-Person (7600 Boone Ave)

Virtual Requirements: Students MUST have a working computer with camera in order to compete. The test will be monitored via staff in a secure Zoom meeting.

 

* Participants enrollment in 5th grade will be verified via contact with their 5th grade math teachers for virtual test.  Please be sure to enter a valid school email for your students' teacher. A confirmation email will be sent after your students have been verified.

10:45- Login to Schoology and Screenleap (share your entire screen)

10:55 Click the mainstage in schoology to navigate to the Zoom link for the opening ceremony

11:00 - 11:30 Opening Ceremony

11:30 - Students report to the “Testing Room” Zoom link

11:40-12:30: Students take the math test 

12:30-12:35: Break

12:35: Students report back to the testing room if they are taking the coding test

12:35-12:40 Repeat previous steps for the coding test

12:40-1:20: Coding test
